It's All About Florals and Bouquets

A guide for making flower decisions

There’s a quote by John Harrigan which says, “Happiness held is the seed; happiness shared is the flower.” It’s true that flowers bring a certain joy and happiness to a wedding. Something about the blooms which reflect the beauty of love growing between two people. Florals and arrangements are on the top of the list as far as planning goes. They often reflect the theme or season and require advance preparation. In hopes for an easier process, here are a few options and ideas.

Color schemes and themes are a great place to start. Remember we said flowers are a reflection? It would seem off to choose a summer flower for a winter wonderland themed wedding. While you don’t have to have all the details ironed out, choosing your main color pallet or theme that you would like incorporated throughout the whole day helps bring direction and focus. From there you can decide on a more monochromatic look, meaning matching and consistent, or for some additional fun you can add a little color contrast. Bright contrasting colors are on the rise currently.

Once you’ve decided on the color and theme, the next decision is what you would like to budget specifically for flowers. Depending on the season, a flower out of season could be higher than one in season. The commonality of the flower also plays a role in the price point. Flowers like Daisies are easier to come by than a Dahlia. This means that a less frequent flower, like a Dahlia will run you more. For some, size matters. Roses of small stature, you may get at a cheaper price point than the jumbo roses you see on Valentine’s Day.

The word alternative can be received in two ways. Either you hear it and think about the nasty substitution you tried for something that you really enjoy, or you think cents to the dollar and the savings that you had because of choosing one thing over another. Either way, there are some options when it comes to florals and arrangements. Some rising trends include the use of single flowers over a whole bouquet for the bride and bridesmaids. Not only are there savings involved with this option, but it becomes less of a focal point, putting eyes back on the person holding the flower. Additionally, the use of silk flowers has become socially accepted and a great alternative to the pricey arrangements. These arrangements are pre-done, require no water, are lightweight and easy to transport. Another exciting feature, they can be reused again and again. You can check out some examples of the silk flowers here.
